Microbes for Longevity: Anti-Aging & Anti-Disease

I just got to my hometown in Canada for a short vacation. We were going through our childhood photos and it got me thinking about the past and future and aging well.
Besides my previous posts on eating healthy, exercising, and drinking moderately you can read on to learn about another way to achieve optimal health.

Recently, micro-organisms are being used more and more in the pharmaceutical industry. They provide optimal health benefits by producing antioxidants and healthy fats, and also by preventing diseases.

Chorella spp. (A Microalgae)

It is a rich source of:
-Protein. It includes all the essential amino acids (the one’s your body can’t make and needs to take from food).
-Carotenoids (anti-oxidative effects). It produces Lutein and Astaxanthin.
-Vitamins (B,C,E, K)
-Minerals (Calcium, magnesium, Iron, etc)

2. Astaxanthin (from Chorella zofingiensisHaenaticiccus pluvialis, Chlorococcum spp)
Colour: Red
Benefits: High antioxidative power! 10x higher than β-carotene and 500x higher than vitamin E!!!
It also prevents diseases that are associated with oxidative stress (e.g. cancers and heart diseases)
In the cosmetic industry is it used to SLOW DOWN AGING in humans by protecting and minimizing the effects of harmful UV radiation on the skin.
